Job Title: Gifted Services Coordinator                                  Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Executive Director of Elementary C&I                  Dept./School: Curriculum & Instruction Days: 207

 

Primary Purpose:

Coordinate gifted services programs in order to meet the needs of students, ensure the integrity of the program and vision of the district, and ensure consistency of programming across the district. Collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide educational opportunities for students identified as gifted and talented and/or high ability. Collaborate with curriculum and instruction departments to ensure appropriate rigor and differentiated Tier 1 instruction in K-12 classrooms. Responsible for development and implementation of identification processes for students requiring gifted services.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution

Master’s degree from accredited institution

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Texas Gifted and Talented certification or willingness to obtain the certification within the first year

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Experience:

Teaching experience in Gifted and Talented Program or AP/Dual Credit courses preferred

Leadership experience preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Program Management

1.    Assist in implementing the processes and procedures to identify gifted and talented students at all grade levels districtwide, including reviewing student data and testing of students.

 

2.    Consult with teachers, principals, and elementary and secondary subject area coordinators regarding curriculum development, resource materials, and curriculum implementation in the area(s) of gifted education and/or advanced placement.

 

3.    Facilitate and collaborate in the development and revision of gifted and talented curriculum.

 

4.    Consult with gifted specialists and teachers to develop and provide high ability and/or gifted and talented students with appropriate coursework through curriculum modification.  Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals.

 

5.    Plan and provide staff development including sessions on methods for identifying and instructing gifted and talented students and enriching learning.

 

6.    Evaluate the gifted and talented program using evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed.

 

7.    Serve as a lead learner for elementary, middle, and high school advanced academics teachers through modeling and facilitating learning opportunities.

 

8.    Collaborate with the C & I departments in the implementation of advanced academics national and state standards through district adopted curricula and use of effective instructional strategies. I

 

9.    Increase the quality and effectiveness of advanced academics classroom instruction through collaborating, co-planning, fostering trusting relationships with staff, and supporting the learning process.

 

10.   Assist the Directors evaluating, supporting, and growing the gifted and talented, advanced placement, and dual credit programs.

 

11.   Collaborate with campus administration to implement district initiatives related to gifted services.

 

12.   Utilize multiple data sources (i.e. campus, district, and standardized testing assessment data) to guide teachers in instructional decisions and in meeting students' learning needs, thus increasing student achievement.

 

13.  Advise subject area coordinators during the textbook adoption process in courses related to gifted education.

 

14.  Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments.

 

15.   Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and be a role model for all district staff and students.

 

16.   Develop evaluation instruments to guide program improvement and to monitor student progress.

 

17.   Implement and monitor policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local board policies in the area of specialization.

 

18.   Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.

 

Consultation

19.   Plan and conduct parent meetings. Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding gifted and talented students.

 

Budget and Inventory

20.   Participate in development, preparation, and administration of budget for supplies and equipment and ensure that the program is cost-effective and that funds are managed wisely.

 

21.   Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.

 

Policy, Reports, and Law

22.   Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

23.   Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.

 

24.   Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
