Primary Purpose:
Perform and oversee major mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles.
Education/Certification
Valid Texas commercial drivers license (Class B)
Associate's Degree in Auto Repair and/or ASE
School Bus Technician Certificate(s) preferred
Railroad Commission Certified (propane)
Qualifications:
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs
Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Ability to operate bus
Acceptable driving record
Above average organizational skills
Above average computer skills
Seven years’ experience as a mechanic
Ability to get along and supervise others
Must provide all hand tools
Perform and adhere to PISD high standard of excellence
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment
Help mechanics evaluate minor mechanical problems and inspect repairs completed
Rebuild, replace or repair major vehicle components, assemblies and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, brakes, etc.
Analyze engine performance and perform tune-ups as needed
Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventative care
Maintain accurate, updated preventative maintenance records
Help train mechanics and mechanic helpers
Drive buses, white fleet vehicles, tractors/trailers and related equipment
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
