Description

Primary Purpose:

The Design Coach will assist with closing the student achievement gap and accelerate learning for all students by building teacher capacity through job-embedded professional learning and implementation of effective instructional practices. This position also supports and provides training and coaching in order to improve classroom instruction that leads to improved student achievement. A Design Coach is one who supports others in building their teaching skills, assists in application of new knowledge, and provides ongoing learning and sustainment. The instructional coach increases the overall quality of effective classroom instruction and student growth.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas secondary teaching certificate

Master’s Degree preferred

Special Education certification preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Experience leading professional learning

Strong knowledge of implementation of the PLC process

Demonstrated ability to implement and lead effective interventions and accommodations

Knowledge of Special Education and 504 law

Successful campus leadership experience

Extensive training in secondary curriculum and instructional strategies

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

Three or more years of classroom experience is required

Five or more years of classroom experience in teaching is preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional

1. Serve as the lead learner through modeling and facilitating learning opportunities for campus staff.

2. Support the implementation of state standards through district adopted curricula and use of effective instructional strategies.

3. Increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction through collaborating, co-planning, coaching cycle completion, fostering trusting relationships with staff and supporting the learning process.

4. Build capacity with campus teams through a gradual release model including facilitating conversations during team collaboration to assist with determining instructional decisions.

5. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

6. Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

7. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

 

Communication

8. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

 

Professional Growth and Development

9. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

10. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

11. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
