Primary Purpose:
Support at-risk students by providing appropriate research-based intervention on a daily basis.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferred master’s with reading certification
Valid Texas Teaching certificate
Must meet Federal highly qualified definition
Experience:
Three years of experience working with at risk students
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of specialized teaching strategies for phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RtI), 504, and SpEd processes and implementation protocol
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
1. Analyze district reading screening measures to determine at-risk students.
2. Analyze student achievement data and use results for instructional interventions.
3. Implement the district-approved, research-based reading program for at-risk students in small groups.
4. Assist in the implementation of the district RtI program and serve as needed on the campus RtI committee.
5. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
6. Assist with the administration of state reading assessments.
7. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
8. Monitor, report, and track student progress and interventions for at-risk students.
9. Follow student’s individual accommodation plans.
10. Employ the use of technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Classroom Management and Organization:
11. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
12. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
14. Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, teacher, and administrators.
15. Assist with the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
16. Assist campus librarian in maintaining literacy library.
Training and Support:
17. Deliver professional development to teachers and literacy education to parents.
18. Support classroom teachers with reading and writing strategies.
Other:
19. Follow department guidelines as outlined in Reading Support Policy and Procedure Binder.
20. Attend scheduled reading department meetings.
21. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
22. Participate in required district professional development hours and additional hours in reading specialization.
23. Travel district wide as required.
24. Perform others duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
