Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership in the design, revision and implementation of the ESL PK-12 curriculum necessary to meet State and District instructional ESL goals. Provide highly focused, innovative, locally designed training to expand and/or enhance existing academic content instruction for teachers of ESL students and to maintain accurate records as required to support funding and compliance requirements. Provide students with appropriate learning and language experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Texas Teacher Certification with credentials in ESL and/or Bilingual
Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s Degree preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of effective professional development including coaching, mentoring
Knowledge of curriculum, ESL instructional methods, and teaching strategies
Knowledge of Bilingual/ESL laws, policies, procedures, and effective teaching practices
Extensive knowledge of technology and instructional applications
Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Experience:
A minimum of 2-3 years or more of successful teaching experience in ESL and/or Bilingual preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
1. Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and student learning.
2. Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem solving.
3. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom.
4. Plan and provide appropriate ESL staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff.
5. Create and present specialized classroom instruction focused on language acquisition.
6. Work collaboratively with the Special Education Department as the LPAC representative to ensure compliance.
Instructional and Program Management
7. Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies.
8. Develop curriculum support materials as needed.
9. Attend professional development training for increasing knowledge of ESL strategies and methodologies.
10. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in the area assigned.
11. Develop and implement lesson plans that present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
12. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

13. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
14. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
16. Follow district emergency procedures and safety protocols.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
On the campuses that employ an ESL paraprofessional, the ESL Teacher Specialist will assist in scheduling daily instructional responsibilities.

Simultaneously managing multiple projects and tasks. Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Must have reliable transportation. Frequent within district travel to multiple campuses required. |
