Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership within the campus counseling team, serving as a liaison between the counseling department, campus administration, and instructional staff. The Lead High School Counselor supports the school's mission by advocating for student success and well-being, coordinating the comprehensive counseling program, and promoting college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) for all students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification Master’s Degree in School Counseling
Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
Minimum of three years of experience in secondary school counseling
High School Counselor experience preferred
Experience
- Knowledge of the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive school counseling program
- Knowledge of high school curriculum, graduation requirements, advanced academics, and CCMR
- Familiarity with the college admission, FAFSA/TASFA, and scholarship processes
- Expertise in working with at-risk and underserved populations
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and public relations skills
- Proficiency in counseling program management and budgeting
- Understanding of mental health resources, state and national testing, and relevant educational policies
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership & Coordination
1. Lead and support the campus counseling team to implement district guidance curriculum that aligns with state and district objectives.
2. Collaborate with campus staff to address the needs of students, particularly those at risk, and to increase participation in advanced academic opportunities, especially for underserved populations.
3. Track and monitor student progress toward CCMR goals, aiming to increase the number of students meeting readiness benchmarks by graduation.
4. Coordinate with feeder school counselors to align course selection processes and facilitate student transitions.
Guidance & Counseling Services
5. Oversee the development and execution of counseling programs that support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
6. Provide training and resources to counseling staff to enhance service delivery and support student needs.
7. Organize workshops for students and families.
8. Ensure all student counseling interactions are documented.
Student Assessment & Evaluation
9. Assist in the administration and evaluation of campus standardized testing programs.
10. Interpret test results and communicate findings to students, staff, and parents, maintaining confidentiality.
Consultation & Communication
11. Act as a resource for parents, teachers, and the community, connecting them with services that support student development.
12. Establish and maintain effective communication systems to share relevant information with stakeholders and address campus needs.
Program Management & Compliance
13. Adhere to policies established by federal, state, and district entities, and report relevant information to appropriate departments.
14. Work with district staff to evaluate and improve campus counseling services, supporting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Professional Development & Community Engagement
15. Promote professional growth by staying informed about current counseling practices and developing skills through participation in state and national organizations.
16. Serve as a role model for ethical and professional behavior, supporting a collaborative campus culture.

17. Lead campus efforts to enhance students’ problem-solving and decision-making skills.
18. Develop and implement activities that foster a positive school climate.
19. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by administration, aligned with supporting students and the district's mission and goals.
20. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
