Pay: $15-$25 per hour/Days: Hourly basis
Primary Purpose:
To instruct and demonstrate proper swimming skills with an emphasis toward competitive swimming.
Qualifications:
CPR and First Aid certified
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification, preferred but not required
Previous aquatic experience, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Be mentally and physically fit
Must exhibit a love for working with children
Flexibility, positivity, and willingness to try new ideas
Ability to work evenings during the school year
Ability to work mornings, evenings, or both during the summer season
Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times
Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content, and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc.
Effective communication skills
Understanding of and commitment to customer care principles
Experience:
Experience in teaching swimming classes and individuals of various ages and ability levels, preferred
Competitive swimming experience, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Adhere to and instruct all swim lesson participants in the established learn-to-swim curriculum.
2. Maintain a high level of safety in his/her own class, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe.
3. Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
4. Work collaboratively with participants and aquatics staff to ensure an educational, engaging, and inviting experience and learning environment for all participants.
5. Interact with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
6. Teach a variety of swim skill levels, educating participants on proper technique and swimmer safety.
7. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
8. Attend mandatory orientation, meetings, and training sessions as scheduled.
9. Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant or teacher questions, and/or to clean up supplies.
10. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
