Primary Purpose:

Teach and manage all music elective courses, including AP Music Theory, Music Production, and History of Popular Music in the United States, at assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
  • Demonstrated competency in instrumental and/or vocal music

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of operation of instrumental and/or vocal music programs
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of historical trends and influences in American music
  • Knowledge of music production software
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to interpret data Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Three years of teaching, preferably in music education

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies-AP Music Theory Course

1. Develop and deliver engaging and rigorous lessons in AP Music Theory.

2. Prepare students for the AP Music Theory exam, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the curriculum.

3. Facilitate class discussions and interactive activities to enhance students' understanding of music theory concepts.

4. Provide individualized support to students, including accommodations for diverse learning styles and abilities.

5. Collaborate with other teachers to align instructional goals and strategies across disciplines.

 

Instructional Strategies-Music Production Course

6. Instruct students in the fundamentals of music production, including recording techniques, sound editing, and mixing.

7. Guide students in the use of relevant software and equipment for music production.

8. Facilitate hands-on projects to allow students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical music production scenarios.

9. Foster a creative and collaborative learning environment that encourages students to explore their musical creativity.

10. Assess and provide constructive feedback on students' music production projects.

 

Instructional Strategies-History of Popular Music in the USA Course

11. Develop and deliver lessons that cover the historical evolution of popular music in the United States.

12. Assess and evaluate students' comprehension of historical concepts through various forms of assessment.

13. Foster critical thinking and analytical skills through discussions and projects related to the history of popular music.

14. Stay updated on current trends and developments in popular music to provide relevant and engaging content. Student

 

Growth and Development

15. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

16. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

17. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

18. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

19. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

20. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

21. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

22. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Communication

23. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

 

Professional Growth and Development

24. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

25. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

26. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

27. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
